Ok, I know that was a brash reply, based on the fact that the only thing between you and the road is the tires...
I've plugged tires many times, never once have I had a problem with my plug job...
If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you get a plug kit with rubber cement in it.. Then, use the "rasp" really well on the tire to open the hole up (you'll understand if you do it yourself) then lube the crap out of the plug with rubber cement,it acts as much as a lube as it does a sealant, shove it in about half way, turn 1/4 turn and then quickly pull the tool, let it set for a few minutes and trim the leftovers with a razor knife..
BTW, I live in an area of horrible roads and about 60% dirt roads, and never had a plug leak or fail...
