I pleaded with them, but they said that since it was a "Federal" recall, they HAD to change it. My guess is that the next time you get your car serviced at a Subaru dealer, they'll run your VIN, find out it's a '99 and change it anyway.

I'm with you. I had absolutely zero problems with my original MAF.
