This is true. The original AccessPORT for the 2002-2003 WRX is the same unit. Every year past that is year, model, and transmission (where applicable) specific.
For instance, a 2003 WRX original AccessPORT will work on a 2002 WRX, but a 2005 STi original AccessPORT will not work on a 2004 STi.
