I've got some beater 15" rims that I want to run dedicated snow/ice tires on (195/xx/15). Where I live we can get snow but it's not usually more than a couple inches, if I go up into higher elevations (to a friends house) he gets 6+ inches. I made it up to his house last year in that snow with bald RE-92's, that was a little unnerving.

Anyway, I don't have lots of money and was looking at some Nokian tires but I don't know if I need beefy snow tires. Something that would handle up to a couple inches would seem to be fine but there's also ice out here as well, last year a huge section of the highway froze over.

I've got dedicated summer tires, what do you suggest I get for a winter tire? I believe I'm near the edge of the snow belt you're talking about
