+1 I work in parts at a Subaru dealership
I get VINs for almost EVERY part I sell
I enter the VIN, get the CORRECT part number, and sell the part. The VIN then gets cleared so I can enter the next customers VIN
The only time I see a VIN on file is when a service order comes through. I use it to get... you guessed it... the correct parts for the vehicle.
If you really think a Subaru dealership is open to do anything but make money, you're a lunatic. Sorry for the honest truth. I have enough to do at work on any given day, (including browsing NASIOC!)
