The mount was essentially normal except a stud extended from the upper plate (that touches the trans) and through a large hole in the lower plate (that touches the cross beam). The end of the stud had a large flat face with a bushing on it. Under normal conditions it made no contact with the lower plate but under extreme torque it would limit the distance the transmission would move!
Perhaps you could use something similar?
My 96 Brighton had the same type of mount. Trim the top ears off an STI tranny mount and it'll sit down in the crossmember.
