^^ let me clarify... it's not that I think that Americans don't like hatchbacks, it's that every time the subject of hatchbacks was brought up to Detroit executives, they would always say that Americans don't like hatchbacks. And that thinking was based on the fact that Americans won't buy craptacular hatchbacks, just like Americans won't buy craptacular diesels either, and Detroit's has a history of making 1/2-hearted attempts at both those.

(I personally love the convenience of hatchbacks, just like I also think that diesels would be a cool alternative to have here, but realistically don't think it's gonna happen)
