Sidewall plays a large role in determining what rim goes with what tire. 50, 45, and 40 sidewall all have different rim width requirements as you shift from a "regular" tire into a "low profile" tire. 40 sidewall requires a rim nearly as wide as the tire itself where on the other extreme 50 sidewall is better off with a rim considerably narrower than the tire. The tires are designed differently to deal with different sidewall stiffness.
245/45/17 is quite tall and probably not what you want. Your stock tire is 25" tall and I suggest something that tall or less. Many people like 24.5" tires for shortening the gears a bit (the 5-speed is a little tall for road racing).
The 09 has pretty good clearance. Mattering on the offset of your rim, you should be able to fit 245/40/17 without much problem. Note that it's slightly shorter than stock which is again a good thing. Try to find a rim with an offset as close to +55 as you can find. 8.0" width will work for 245/40/17 but a little more rim width wouldn't hurt. However, if you have to sacrifice a lot of offset, you might get into rear fender rubbing problems.
Tire rack has the MT1 on closeout which is a 5x100 17x8.5" rim with +48 offset. Might want to check that out...
