Default Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q Winter Tires

After having just about slammed my WRX sideways into a curb on ice I thought it was time to get winter tires.

I have had these Nokian tires now for a month and I am really pleased. In snow or on packed snow if you turn the wheel, the car goes where you point, not like with the stock RE92s. On ice they are WAAAAYYYYYY (emphasis on WAY) than the stock tires. They supposedly aren't as good as Blizzaks on ice, but I am not complaining. Oh ya, they are really good on gravel too, but they will wear out a lot faster this way.

On dry pavement they are not as grippy as the RE92s. Breaking distance on dry pavement will increase over the stock tires (still pretty good breaking, though). The sidewalls are not as stiff and the tires sound like a rubber inner tube (go figure) when they kick up small rocks.

Like all tires that fit on the stock WRX rims, these do not come cheap. I paid around $900 Canadian for the 4 tires and install, but they were only $550 after tax and the trade in for my used RE92s.

I used to be a HUGE fan of Michelin Arctic Alpins, but after using these tires in winter I wouldn't go back. I just wish there was more snow up here to use them on (it melted too fast).
