no, kinda, the oil in them is part of the oil that runs around in the motor in reality it changes with each oil chance all on its own with time

ether you have good or bad hla's but if you take them out you are supposed to re oil them or it will take a few hours* of the engine running to get them @ 100% again.

* not too sure on the time

also see if you can find a 97 -98 ej22e they have SLA and reduce some of the effort it takes to turn the camshaft*, but they do need adjusted every 100k

*subaru changed them to get better mpg along with other changes in the 97MY
