My friend had an 88-91 Civic hatch in high school and he rigged up a switch to engage VTEC (i think it was SOHC vtec though), it was hilarious. He'd floor it, then at like 5K rpm he would flip the switch and the SOUND of vtec happened, but it didn't feel like there was any power increase so it was just a noise maker.
We got plenty of laughs out of it.
