Bob, I think the skeptics have been silenced. I think the Turbo 2.5 is going to have many applications. It will be Subaru's way of putting performance in their US vehicles. I think you are right on applications, but let me give you my own little tweaked version...
'04 Forester XT - 2.5T with 205-220hp (including a slightly stiffer/lower suspension for the increased performance along with the '03 Legacy GT brake setup)
'05 Legacy GT - 2.5T with around 270-285hp (they supprised us with the STi engine specs, didn't they!)
Since I don't think the Land Down Under and NZ have any requirements on displacement (look at the Holden's and such coming out of there), they will likely be matching the US offerings as well.
One other possible application for the 2.5T is also the upcoming 7-passenger minivan/suv concept (not sure exactly which yet.) It could be a sportier version boasting somewhere in the range of 240-250hp with a manual and of course AWD, something no other minivan has even remotely considered. Sell those for $29 and up and they'll go like hotcakes. I'm sure there's a lot of people who wouldn't mind a larger passenger vehicle that could be nimble, move quickly, and be relatively fuel efficient at the same time (LEV standard.)
