I've used the stainless mesh (like an SOS pad) in the past and it worked decently, but never felt that it was doing what it was supposed to do at all times. When installing the mesh it would typically bunch up leaving several large and undesirable gaps. The ceramic rings look promising, but cost and overall volume may make it less practical.

As far as increasing the velocity of the air/oil mixture: In a funnel, as the air and vapor goes from the large end of a funnel to the small, the velocity will increase proportionately as the radius decreases. Take a look at the Dyson vacuums and at other cyclonic separation devices. The trick is to make sure that the velocity increases enough to separate the oil vapors from the air. These systems are proven in many industrial applications with great success. The beauty as I see it is that as vacuum increases from the 'output' (which feeds into the turbo intake duct), the efficiency should increases as well since velocity within the funnel shape increase.
