I'm you 6 months in the future.
I wanted to know all about welding and how to do it. I read all I could, looked at videos, watched shows.
I'm now enrolled in my first welding class as a local community college. GMAW (mig). Best thing ever. I learned more about it the first two weeks (4 classes) than I ever did in two years of all that other stuff.
I went to lay my first bead in lab and it had to be the worst lump of molten metal to form from that gun in years. Wouldn't hold up a paperclip in a light breeze. My brother asked me what it was like. I said,
...like the first time I had sex. I'd read about it , seen pictures, and viewed videos, but when I actually did it, it's nothing at all like I thought. Weird smells. Strange sounds. The set up was just altogether foreign, and no matter how much I wanted to be good at it, I was a complete novice and failed at almost everything I tried. With some practice I think I could be good, and look forward to doing it again tomorrow.
Take a class. Lay bead.
