Please don't listen to the above poster. 450 Fahrenheit on a front headlamp, made of polycarbonate (PC), will cause it to melt, even more so the taillamp, which are usually made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). These plastics, which are not as impact resistant as PC, melt at 160 C but will probably begin to meltflow at the temperatures people use to melt the butyl rubber seal on headlamps. You can go through threads here and see idiots who've tried it and then have cried about ruining their tails.

The referenced guy with the taillamp modification either 1) used a low enough temperature or locally heated the butyl seal with a heatgun just enough to get it to be pliable, or 2) cut the seal with an exacto knife and some brute force.
