Why not 2k? Why not 1k? The fresher the oil, the happier the car!
I got a used oil analysis, which said my TBN in the oil was still solid at 2.6 after being run for 6k miles, and the viscosity is still good. Why should I change my oil at half its functional life? Like any other wear part, you don't need to replace it until it's no longer effectively doing its job.
