Was one shop quoting the labor cost only and the other quoting the cost of labor and ALL parts?

Depending on which software a shop uses (alldata, mitchell etc) the 'book time' on a clutch for a wrx/sti is anywhere from 4.7-6.9 hours. Usually that's not including R&R flywheel, pressing in/out the new pilot bearing, resurfacing the flywheel etc. etc.

multiply the book time by the labor rate and there you have it. Add in the cost of the clutch kit and $1,200 doesn't sound very inflated.
