go look at it first.
Drive it. listen for sounds. squeeks mean ungreased or worn bushings - deduct $250.
check the oil pan, trans pan, etc. any dents , dings, bruises to the pans, deduct $500.
The tires? deduct $250. 5 BFG ATs should run you in the neighborhood of $800 mounted, balanced, etc in a 31 x 10.50.
check the rear axle, if it isnt a dana 44, deduct $250.
take a look at all of the body bushings, suspension bushings, tie rod ends - if any look worn enough to need replacement, deduct $250.
If the brakes need to be replaced, deduct $500.
get underneath, wiggle the driveshafts, if the ujoints are bitched, deduct $100.
what i'm trying to get at is, look at as much as you can.
If you can, jack the front wheels up , grab the top and bottom of the tire and push the top in while pulling the bottom out and vice versa. if it wiggles, it needs balljoints. This isnt such a big deal for the home mechanic, but if you have to drop it off to one to get it done, it can get stupid expensive. same goes for the unit bearings.
check for any fluid leaks too.
