I'm looking forward to what VW will produce with the MK7. I own a 2010 Mk6 GTI and love it. I've only got about 25k miles on mine so far but it's been completely reliable - no leaks, rattles, squeeks - nothing. The TSI motors have been a big step forward in reliability for VW and they respond very well to tuning.
I have the APR Stage 1 Software and intake on my car which has been dynoing in the 265hp/300+tq range at the crank. At this power level it produces almost zero torque steer. I can floor it in 1st and 2nd gear without my hand on the steering wheel. If I'm on an unlevel road or one of the wheels hits moisture or gravel then it's a different story but it doesn't yank the steering wheel ever. It'll never compare to AWD for traction but the upside is that the car is lighter and only has 10-12% drivetrain loss.
Overall the build quality is better than my wife's 2006 BMW 530. On the road it's smoother, quieter, quicker and gets 27+ mpg (Average! Hwy is over 30).
Anyway - the prospect of a ~2800 lb, 260hp GTI with a true LSD sounds awesome.
