the perrin is working great for me.
no dremeling/grinding here.. just a good pull on a large adjustable wrench, and bent the hell out of that damned plate.
HINT: get some grease on your finger, and before you put the bolt through the perrin on the shift lever and secure the linkage, work some grease up the length of the linkage and into the rubber boot. this will help keep it silky.
i set my perrin height (and therefore degree of shift-shortening) AFTER i put the bolt back through the perrin. i simply moved it up until i could feel the linkage getting obstructed in a few gear positions, then backed off a tad. all i can say is that it's pretty damned short.
if you don't mind having a tiny hole in your shift boot, you could actually rig it up so you could adjust without console removal.
