Right. My point is that I would rather have the flap rip (as your RAs did), than have the flap stay intact (as you suggest the DRTs will), and tear the hardware or mounting point off the car. Sometimes ripping/breaking is a good thing, if it saves a piece of the car that's harder and/or more expensive to fix. I'd rather replace or repair my mud flap than my fender liner.
edit: sorry, mixed up who said what, but the point is the same.
edit: lol i should show you where it ripped. it ripped on the inside hole in which the hardware was mounted on the metal part of the car. the plastic washers gets a little bent (can always be replaced if necessary cheaper than the flaps) from the pulling, but everything is fine. my thing was if i had DRTs at time that i had snagged the flap, it would've had a higher chance of just coming off the car without ripping.
