I was told that in no way would Subaru go above 2.0 (or perhaps it was 2.2l) due to the class or classes it competed with in racing and some issues with a motor over 2.0l being sold in Europe. Well that was wrong. Now I dream of a 3.5 boxer 6 twin turbo in a WRX/STI size car. And see no reason why eventually it might not happen...
My 2cents, is that Subaru used the 2.5L to get around emissions but still compete with the EVO. As far as development goes going forward, i would think the 2.0L engine will get the foicus as this is what is used for competition, WRC. They may put other engines in it, who knows, but probably straying from the spirit of the STI/EVO type street rally car. But hey, why not, the new V8 in the S4 sounds like a nice engine.
