In fact I did it four times, I know this because after each time I'd try the new remote and it wouldn't work so I'd retry figuring I made a mistake somewhere. After the fourth time, my default remote was removed from the remote codes programmed in and it didn't work anymore. I was able to reprogram the car to accept that remote. So I am sure I am programming the remotes correctly.
This leads me to the conclusion that either
(1) The replacement fob I got off eBay for $12.50 with shipping is no good.
(2) The replacement fob will not work with my car even though it has the same FCC ID, because there are extra buttons on the replacement remote that do not exist on my standard remote.
Does anyone know which is the case?
The replacement remote that you got with the trunk button and the panic button should still work....as long as it is a Subaru OEM remote and not a knock-off. We have sold those remotes to customers before and the trunk button just doesn't work. The panic button will work.
Ebay remotes have been known to be no good. I have tried myself to program ones customers have brought in and they don't work....only to program a Subaru one and have no problem.
If it is a 'new' OEM replacement, send it back. You have a better chance of a 'used' one working than an OEM 'replacement'
