Yes you can take the subwoofer apart, but i wouldnt reccomend replacing the original woofer that is in the enclosure. I cracked mine open to repair a broken tinsel lead ( this causes the sub to be inermittent) and noticed that the amp was well built but gutless. the woofer itself has a heavy steel plate for a cone and the cone backing is a paper pulp. also the maximum wattage rating for the woofer was 120 watts a .5 ohms. so if you put a normal 4ohm woofer in its place you'd be getting like 35 watts or so out of the tiny amp (not exact wattage, too lazy to do the maths ). That and the woofer is pretty much flat and anything larger would cause the enclosure not to close.
