I have a similar problem with my 2005 STi. I've gotten into the habit of waiting for the gauge sweep to finish before starting the car. My 2012 Impreza will always start if I wait for the gauge sweep to finish. However the remote starter pretty much fails on the first try. I have to click the remote a 2nd time to succeed.
