Thanks for the reply buddy, so basically its only worth doing a hybrid if you already have the 2.0 heads since going out and buying them would pretty much require spending the extra $400 to mimic the 2.5l chamber and thats not including a P&P or any other machine work that may be required... I was kinda hoping the 2.0L would be lighter or have better metallurgy

The main reason is price. If you go with a full EJ257 longblock, you also have to purchase all of the AVCS equipment to go with it. Even if you don't run AVCS, you will need the lines and solenoids to feed oil to the cams. This stuff adds up very quickly in price as opposed to just machining out the 2.0l castings.
