Did my front rotors (OEMs, below 22mm thk.) with centric premiums, kept the semi-metallic pads that prev owner had in.
Did the 60-5 MPH stops 10 times and got some good smoking (the centric coating on the interior vanes seemed to "cook" off completely, but tophat is OK) brakes. Did a cool down drive and wasn't happy with appearance of rotor face and transferred material (uneven).
So did another 6-7 60-5 MPH stops and this time actually experienced some pad fade and severe smoking. Cooled it down on a drive and it feels OK brake-wise, but now:
- interior of car smells like brake pad smoke
(but is going away)
- Wheels smell like burnt pad even when cooled completely, worse when warmed to normal temp.
Should I just take the wheels off and brakleen it all down to remove the burnt "dust" from everything?
Inspect the pads to see if glazed? Can you over-heat and damage a SemMet pad?
Is my brake fluid toast? I purposely held off on a flush (gawd knows if/ever done), so it won't be a waste of time/$.
