The bigger it is, the more functional it is. I mean really, if you have tiny flaps, all you're doing is protecting the plastic underbody pieces from rocks... but that's their job in the first place. The whole point of trucks using flaps is to protect the cargo and avoid lawsuits (trucks throw larger rocks than cars tend to), and the whole point of them on rally cars is to avoid rocks hitting up on the side, and so they stick 1-2" out usually.
