The whole point of trucks using flaps is to protect the cargo and avoid lawsuits (trucks throw larger rocks than cars tend to), and the whole point of them on rally cars is to avoid rocks hitting up on the side, and so they stick 1-2" out usually.
But I'm not rallying. I'm commuting a lot and taking the occasional unpaved road. I just want to keep excessive mud and salt off the rockers and lower quarter panels. I don't really anticipate shooting rocks up off my door handles. I feel there is a place for subtle functionality apart from full rally gear.
