With the Mossy you're really limiting the options you have for aftermarket gear without requiring a smith. I regularly see Savage Model 10s going for right around $500 online, and a lot of those dealers offer free shipping. At that price the transfer fee is going to be less than local tax. There's also a TX gun trading forum (can't find the link right now) that has some decent prices, some of which have some aftermarket bits on them already.
Well, I have shot my friends Savage 7mm bolt action, it was ok but i didnt like the feel of the rifle in my arms. Then I have shot my other friends .308 Remington 700, it shot nice, but I don't like the looks of the rifle.
I like the looks of the mossberg 4x4 with the laminated stock, or the synthetic skeleton stock. It already has an adjustable trigger from 2-7lbs, 24" Free Floating Button Rifled Fluted Barrel with muzzle break, rail for sight, box magazine, recoil pad... I don't know what else it would need besides a scope..
