It depends on what the code is. That will tell you what area of the truck to look in. It's not the kind of corrosion you're thinking of. It's microscopic. It's a result of the connector moving around and the terminals moving around on eachother. Like when a battery sparks and leaves behind burn marks, but on a much smaller scale.
This is just speculation though, i don't even know what the code is. It's just a common issue in most part model GMs.
Another one is off you have any type of electrical device on the passenger seat. Cell phone, charger, ipod, etc...that can set a code too.
