I'm building an 02 wrx and heard rumors that the tranny is a glass box if you venture too far above 300whp, grandid driving habits are a big factor. I've read up on STi swaps and just putting stronger gears in, both are costly and a pain in the ***, but which is truly more reliable?
This is highly debated. To be honest, mine blew at stage 2 power levels. I don't think it was my driving. Some say a heavy clutch will do it, witch I have. Could have been from the previous owner. I don't know for sure.

I wouldnt worry about it too much. I've heard of people with decent power and never had a problem. Just know it could happen and be prepared.

There are a few options. 6 speed is a good one. Finding all the parts you need can be a hassle, bit they are super strong. I've heard of people doing the hole swap for under 4k doing all the labor themselves.

Ppgs are vary strong, but pricey. I, myself didn't have the time to find all the things I needed for the 6 speed swap as my wrx is my only car and didn't have the money for ppgs. I ended up using the 08+ gear set. Cheaper then the other options and said to hold 400 whp ok. I don't plan on getting to 400whp so this option suited my needs. I had Cobb tuning do the work, got it back in a little less than a week.

At the moment I have an act heavy duty clutch, 300whp, 350wtq. I've had the new gear set for almost a year with no problems. Just don't forget to change the little speedo gear like I did. Its a little off but no biggie.

Hope this helped.
