Circuit of The Americas™ hosts Oct. 21 First Lap Ceremony for new racing circuit
Circuit Ambassador Mario Andretti to be first to drive the full track in a Lotus Formula 1™ car
AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 11, 2012) – Circuit of The Americas will host a “first lap ceremony” on Sunday, Oct. 21, to celebrate the completion of the 3.4-mile Grade 1 race course and to mark another important milestone in the ongoing countdown to the 2012 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX™, set for Nov. 16-18 at the new sports and entertainment destination in Central Texas. The invitation-only event will be sponsored by Pirelli, the official tire supplier for the Formula One World Championship™ and an Inaugural Partner of Circuit of The Americas, and will feature the Lotus Formula 1 team.
Circuit of The Americas Ambassador and 1978 Formula One World Champion driver Mario Andretti will take the first full lap around the newly paved racetrack in a Lotus R30 Formula 1 car. Additionally, Lotus test driver Jerome D’Ambrosio and television celebrity Patrick Dempsey, who in his spare time competes in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series GT class racing series, will take “hot laps” around the circuit in the Lotus car.
The afternoon will showcase a variety of racing vehicles; many of the types of cars displayed both on and off the track will compete at Circuit of The Americas during its 2013 season. There will also be a special display and on-track demonstration by 25 vintage race cars featuring Pirelli P Zero tires. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Pirelli P Zero product line, which is frequently used in premium motorsports, including Formula 1 racing, and by the owners of high-performance sports cars.

PLEASE NOTE: This is event is invitation-only and not open to the public. Guests should arrive at Circuit of The Americas no later than 12:30 p.m. via the construction entrance near the Piland Triangle on FM 812 and park in the large parking lot behind the Main Grandstand to catch shuttles to the Pit Lane Area. The dress code is casual. All guests must wear closed-toe footwear and long pants.
MEDIA ACCESS: Journalists interested in attending the First Lap Ceremony for newsgathering purposes should RSVP no later than Wednesday, Oct. 17. Media vehicles will not be able to access the Pit Lane area of Circuit of The Americas but can be staged in the designated parking lot behind the Main Grandstand.
