Pittsburgh winters have been light recently or have good road clearing. Used WinterSport 3D's on a previous FWD car with no problems. Hesitant about the Altimax's because they're not performance winters. In the snow I'm sure they're better but I don't want the car to turn into a marshmallow when the roads are dry and clean.

I think you answered your own question. Cant have the best of both worlds unfortunately. Either marshmallows that grip in snow, or give up some snow grip for dry stability. IMHO, unless you're doing a ton of mountain driving where you're scared of driving off a cliff, it woudln't make sense to get the Altimax.
