If you coast at 50 mph, you will see revs fall to the lowest possible RPM, around 1650 rpm by my logging. If you are on a flat road, not accelerating, and there's no headwind, RPM will stay at 1650. If you accelerate AT ALL, the CVT will downshift, and RPM will rise. You can watch the red Fuel Economy meter needle to determine if the car thinks you're accelerating or not. If the needle is to the right of mid-point, your CVT should be keeping the revs low. As noted above, in 6th manual, there's almost no acceleration possible, although it makes following on the highway easier. In auto mode, revs rise and acceleration jumps, then you have to back off the throttle.
