Hopefully not shooting myself in the foot.... there is a slightly used Spearco unit for sale here that I've been entertaining, but I've only read complaints about the whistling and the massive size. That got me thinking about the Perrin. My car is a DD and I don't have any immediate intentions of trying to make a bajillion HP. It bothers me that after an 18 minute highway commute, I pull into Starbucks and can see heat coming out of my hood scoop. I may be better served by getting a turbo and dp blanket and doing the bulletproof mod.
I would always say blanket that turbo, easy and a MASSIVE change in engine bay temp from every heat gun video of them. As far as the top mount, before I switched my stock out to a Perrin front I went and fixed the gaps that are between the stock top mount and the scoop as well as made a head protector to deflect the heat from rising into it. that made a significant difference. Not sure the flow rates on them all but having a good seal there and protecting it from heat in my opinion are the key and those are both easy DIY projects that cost next to nothing, think my total was $50-80 and that got enough heat blanketing to make a turbo blanket as well.
Took it off a wile ago and donated it to my buddies budget build so it looks nothing like it did (non subi build) otherwise I would toss up a pic.
