If he goes with the 17x9 +42...
He'll only need to roll the rears. Maybe not even if he stays at stock ride height. He said he wants to stay with stock tire size too. 225/45/17 will stretch a good amount on a 9" rim
I ran/run 17x9 +44 Work CR-Kai with 245/40/17 tires. Lowered about an inch on epic springs, and then again on RCE blacks, I did not have to roll any fenders. It was VERY close but I did not have to roll for fitment and nothing rubbed.
However, after I installed my white line rear subframe and differential bushings (solid poly, not inserts) it started to very slightly rub in the rear so I had them rolled.
