i have no idea what you guys are talking about. all manual transmission cars have some sort of switch on the clutch pedal to ensure the car doesnt start without you pushing the pedal in. obviously automatics dont have this (though they do usually use the brake pedal switch to make sure you press the brake pedal before you shift out of park)

toupedave, check your pedal box at the clutch pedal for the small black switch that detects when you push the pedal in all the way. there is a little plastic pad that clips onto the pedal and presses the switch. sometimes the pad wears out or breaks and falls off, making it very hard to press the switch. or something could be a little bent and the switch isnt being pressed for some other reason.
