I have searched for the answer to this, but I have not found a post or thread dealing directly with my question/issue.

I have a 2002 WRX with a 5mt. The front axle ends are female, mating to the trans with male axle stubs.

I just grenaded 3rd gear and am going to swap in a 6mt.

The 6mt I am looking to get is an 05 with male axle ends and the trans is female.

I know I can get 38415AA110 (04 STi axle stubs) to essentially convert the trans to an 04 and allow me to use my female axles, but since I already have a 5mt with axle stubs can I just remove those stubs and use them in the 6mt?

The only issue I can see is that I would need to install the stubs while the trans is open since they use a snap ring (that must be accessed from inside the diff) as opposed to just sliding in with a circlip. I will be replacing the synchros and adding Spec B gears. So the inside of the diff will be accessible to install the snap rings for the 5mt axle stubs.

This should work, but am I missing something?
