Curious, messy as in finished product or messy as actually making it? Making it is a bit of a chore and the glue is something that can get around, hence all my sheeting. Finished product does come out very clean, especially if someone doesn't have to do the side doors and only the hatch for flaps. If someone really wanted to, they could even reinforce a side with harder rubber or hard plastic if needed, but this vinyl stands up quite well- the only sagging piece is the rear hatch flap, which I use for protection.
If the hatch entry is already protected enough, the flap could be removed altogether or velcroed to the hatch itself. Since I'm anal on appearance too, I've considered making the velcroed piece for the rear door and 'tucking in' the flap instead; I'll post pics to the main instructions if I try some mods like this.
