make sure the big fat wire going from the alternator to the battery has all its shielding intact, and that the connections aren't corroded. This can cause excessive alternator load, and still poor battery charging.

Do a voltage drop test from the battery positive terminal to the alternator post, and from alternator case to battery negative terminal.

HID's draw less amperage than halogens once running, and how powerful is your amp?
