Did you need it that badly? It's A LOT of engine for something so small. The old 2.4 wasn't bad, and the 2.5 (which I assume is what it has had since the engine was first debuted in other Toyotas a few years ago) really bridges the gap.
Toyota had an accidental niche with the V6. Yes, it was too much power, but it still returned awesome gas mileage. Now with the 4-cylinder, the RAV4 is just like everyone else. I know the CR-V has been outselling the RAV, but I have no reason to consider the Toyota over the CR-V now.
I rented a 2.4 RAV4 for a week, and while the power was adequate, I'd rather step up to the monster that is the V6
(not to mention for towing capability)
