Thats one of the reasons that it may seem like we are taking an eternity to find a simple item. We are just trying to PREVENT a miscommunication/wrong part. With the correct last 8 characters of the VIN, its just one less variable that could cause a problem.

Nothing is guarnteed without the VIN.
Most customers wont mind...its the one's who assume our system is like Pepboys/Autozone who get impatient and wont understand.

Mitsubishi ASA is still easier without the VIN compared to Subaru FAST.
And forget about VW....ETKA stops breaking VINs down on pre-2000 models, but having the VIN still allows alot of decoding the old way.

The VIN really doesn't lie.

I hope I helped clear up some things that people may have not known in the past. The VIN really does have a purpose with the parts department. Don't be scared of getting your warranty voided after buying parts from Subaru.

PM me if you have any questions.
Thanks for all the other dealership parts guys for chiming in on this.

After reading through the entire thread its pretty much obvious at this point that people who don't/won't/refuse to understand need to work a month behind a parts counter. Then reality can come kick them in the face.
