After taking the tail section cover off and pulling the center differential out on my 2004 Subaru Forester XT I found nothing extreme. Just the bearings that are a little worn out and a little noisy. My main concern is the burnt discoloration on my center differential. Before I took it all apart there was no clunking or banging in tight turns.
Is there any way to test the differential, FSM says nothing about the procedure.
Some of them look that way. I think it's from the hardening process after they cut the splines into them. Nothing wrong with it.
