Since the gears were off recently anyway, they should come off pretty easy. Did you torque them to 75ft/lbs? Just try the belt method. I have the tool for a wrx, but not sti. Im about to rebuild an sti motor so wish me luck as well. Ill probably buy the tool soon.
A shop did the new engine so I'm not sure. The intake cam gear was changed about 1k ago due to a p0011 that still won't stay gone and I can't figure out why (everything in avcs system has been replaced with brand new oem parts). What is it with avcs gears that makes the bolts nearly impossible to remove? I had no issues with the exhaust gears last time. Which tool are you talking about, the $50 ones from rally sport direct?
