Couldn't it mean the cat needs to be replaced? I've read cats are first thing to go on subaru's, also when my old engine spun a bearing there were immense amounts of smoke pouring from my exhaust for a good twenty minutes so I wonder if that could have clogged it up.
The light itself is a warning from the stock EGT which is downstream of the cat. The spanner swinger in me says cut the cord because it actually isn't vital to the operation of the car.
Is your exhaust wrapped?
