And the OP asked for people's opinions about a problem he was having, so we're giving them based on our personal experience. That's how a forum works. So go chastise people somewhere else.
So did both WRX's I test drove. So did mine, from the day I bought it, especially under hard acceleration.

I suppose I take things literally as they are written. I understand the difference of suggestion and what the majority of these replies are. Half the thread is guaranteeing that it's normal without ever hearing it! A better reply would carry a disclaimer of "...but I can't hear how loud your particular case actually is, so maybe it actually is bad..."
maybe I give people too much credit? I assume that most people bothering to make a thread about gear whine after reading threads on it being common may actually be concerned theirs is different.
