k20s that are rated ~200 crank hp seem to last longer at 400whp(less torque, but still). fb20s from brz/fr-s are also seem to be holding up to 400whp pretty well. don't forget 2jz-gte's, 3s-gte's, sr20det's, rb26dett's, vq35de's and whatever is in MS3's, GTI's and SRT-4s
all of those engines can handle larger percentage power increases and last longer..
Other than the 2jz and the sr20...I'd have to disagree with you on all of those (having seen plenty of them blown up in the 300+ whp range). They are just a lot cheaper and easier to build up than the flat 4 design we have. The FB20's haven't even been fully tested over time and if you look at the curves coming out on turbo kits...they haven't even REALLY figured out how to boost them properly yet with the direct injection from Toyota matched with the Subaru block. That motor really needs an awesome supercharged setup.
