Watch some professional video reviews of the CVT equipped Impreza (Consumer Reports has one, look at the videos I just provided you).
All the professional reviews I've seen say the car handles great, is slightly underpowered, but makes up for it by providing much improved MPG's. Not one stated they thought that Subaru was chasing MPG's purely, at the expense of real world driving performance, only that there is an expected trade off between less power and higher MPG'
There, I summed up most of the professional reviews in two sentences for you. There isn't a single review that I can find that agrees your opinion is valid. You can have your opinion, just don't confuse it with what most people (including professional auto reviewers) think.
