If you view any consumer advocacy website in the history of the internet, they will all say thta extended warranties suck. Aftermarket ones are worse. Maintenance packages equally suck as you are paying dealer prices for stuff that could be done cheaper at your local Firestone or other chain store for much less. Try to add either into your bargaining during sales negotiations maybe....though you'll end up paying slightly more for the car than without, you can sometimes get that stuff thrown in for "free". And for God's sake if you are just asking for the sake of asking and are going to get them regardless, BE DAMN SURE that you negotiate the hell out of them when you are in "the booth" as that $700 warranty or maint. package is negotiable as hell.
I ended up doing a maintenance package and warranty, and got it thrown in with the purchase of the vehicle. Basically got the maintenance package for free along with the extended warranty. I thought it was worth it. You may not. It's all up to you.
